Pedestrian Bridge over the Lotsekanal named „Building of the Year“
Lotsekanalbruecke Hamburg-Harburg

The bridge over the Lotsekanal in Hamburg-Harburg's inner harbour was named building of the year 2016 by the architects and engineers association AIV. The revolvable pedestrian bridge links the new Kanalplatz at Veritas pier with the castle island of Harburg and was planned by Winking · Froh  Architekten together with Ingenieurbüro Grassl GmbH. The design was awardet 1st prize in a competition in 2011. The pedestrian bridge is revolving around an exentric pilar. In order to open it, the mobile part of the bridge with its 17meters is being turned out of the navigable openig of the bridge. It is constructed out of welded steel box girders crossed with transversal girders in different sizes. The width of the bridge opens up for the pedestrians at the center of the rotation point and invites them to sit on a circular bench which also houses the control technology.
